Wellington Interclub – 17 August 2011

Last updated Wed 17 Aug 2011 14:50:43 NZST

Good news is that there is no snow on the ground and we are back to familiar southerly weather. Schools are open. And the Route 21 Buses, which go up Beauchamp street, are running.

So yes, we are going ahead with the Wellington Interclub tonight!

Club Meeting – 3 August 2011

This meeting is devoted to

* making a final selection for Monochrome, Cosmopolitan and Selling
* planning for the Wellington Interclub on the 17th August.

Final Selection

I have sent a separate email about the selections and what is still to
be decided. (Monochrome, Cosmopolitan and Selling)

Yope has offered to help, so hopefully we will get this finalised.

Planning for the Interclub

Just to recap how the actual Interclub evening works. There are two
parts to the evening. The first part is the competition itself. The
second part is the light supper which we provide.

Competition

There are 6 clubs each with 10 images. We provide one MC, one judge and
one scorer. Each club has two helpers (one to collect the image that has
just been displayed, and another to bring up the next image).

There are easel(s) capable of holding 6 images so that the judge can
look at all 6 images at once.

For each category, the judge ranks the 6 images, using 1 for the highest
ranked image to 6 for the lowest ranked image.

The scorer keeps track of the scores and announces them at the end of
each round. Ideally we should have this projected, so that people can
see the results as the evening goes on.

Each club has a table to keep their 10 images.

We need seating for about 60 to 70 people.

Light Supper

At the end of the competition we have to pack up the seating and
organise the tables for the supper.

We provide the supper, with each of us bringing a plate.

We will also provide coffee, tea and light refreshment.

Club Meeting – 27 July 2011

A quick reminder about two happenings this week, on the same day, but
at different times.

Hutt/Karori Exhibition

The first is the opening of the “Don’t f-Stop Me Now!” where some of our
members are also exhibiting. The opening runs from 6:00 to 9:00. There
is time for us to get there for an hour and then turn up for our
meeting.

Club Meeting – Yope Bon

The second event is our meeting at 7:30. We are doing the final
selection for the Wellington Regional Interclub.

Yope Bon, who has spoken/critiqued for us previously, will be helping
with the selection of the final images.

Just a reminder that we have selected images for the following:
Chair, Rhythm and Night

The shortlist for the following was sent out in an earlier email
Flora, Shadow, Monochrome, Impression, Reflect

We were lacking in the following and didn’t have a shortlist yet:
Cosmopolitan, Selling

Remember all images should be printed on 10x8in or A4 size. This will
help determine how the image will print up.

Club Meeting – 13 July 2011

Note that the meeting is at 7:30 on Wednesday 13th
(not our normal Wednesday) at the Karori Arts and Crafts Centre.

There are a couple of things on this week

  • Handing in of prints for Hutt Camera Club Exhibition
  • Selection of images for Wellington Interclub

Prints for Hutt Camera Club Exhibition

I will be dropping off the prints at Chris on Thursday. So please
bring them along to the meeting on Wednesday.

Images need to be either matted to 20×16 so they can fit in frames.
Or if they are canvas or corrugated, they need to be ready to hang.

Entrants entering need to have a “Hutt Art Society Entry form”
completed and emailed back to Chris. I will bring along some hardcopy
forms which people can fill in on the night, and I will get the details
captured and emailed to Chris.

Wellington Interclub – Initial Selection of Images

  • Topics for competition are:
    Chair Cosmopolitan
    Flora Impression
    Night Reflect
    Rhythm Selling
    Shadow Monochrome Open
  • As a club we have to choose one image for each category.
  • To get there we are are having two selection rounds:
    • Wednesday 13th July – Initial selection of 3 images per category
    • Wednesday 27th July – Final selection
  • This initial selection will be via digital or print (digital preferred)
  • You can each submit up to 3 images per category. But bear in mind we are only going to select 3 for the final selection.
  • Can you please size to 1024px on the longest side and name them as follows (this will help enormously when loading to the laptop):
category_your_name_anything.jpg where category is one of:
      Chair Cosmopolitan
      Flora Impression
      Night Reflect
      Rhythm Selling
      Shadow Monochrome
     e.g. chair_mark_berger_old_car.jpg

  • Images can be from archive. The only thing is that they should not have been shown at a previous interclub.
  • For the initial selection on 13 July we we will select the top 3 entries for each category by popular vote.
  • For the final selection on 27 July, we will use an external judge/selector.
  • For this final selection, images should be printed, but not necessarily matted.

Syd Moore – Exhibition – Photo Records or Beyond? You Judge Please.

Syd, a long time member of the Karori Camera Club, is having a
photographic exhibition at the beginning of July.

His images challenge the viewer and cause one to ponder not only
the subject matter, but what the photographer intended.
