Club Meeting – 30 July 2008

Just a reminder that our next meeting – to select images for the Wellington regional interclub competition – is this Wednesday instead of the first Wednesday in August.

This will give people more time to get prints ready for the competition (which is on Tuesday 12 August).

PLEASE BRING ANY DIGITAL IMAGES OR PRINTS YOU HAVE OF THE FOLLOWING SUBJECTS:

  • Plumbing
  • Clouds
  • Night
  • Abandoned
  • Liquid
  • Glass (not reflective)
  • Rocks
  • One Tree
  • Glint in the Eye
  • Wide
  • Interior (Architecture)
  • Orange

The regional interclub competition is done differently from the Hutt-Karori battle – each of the five clubs puts one print in for each topic. The prints need to be matted or mounted on board, but don’t need to be in frames – in fact it’s easier to handle them if they’re not in frames.

We don’t have to have them enlarged and matted f<>or this Wednesday’s selection meeting though. If you can’t make the meeting could you please contact me or Mark about how to get them to us. Look forward to seeing your images!

Club Meeting – 16 July 2008

Remember that this week we’re hosting the Hutt Camera Club for our annual interclub battle.

It’s always a great night’s entertainment. You’ll see a great range of photography and learn heaps from our judge.

Club members, please remember to bring a plate to share for supper.

Venue is at the Club Rooms at the Karori Arts and Crafts Centre, Beauchamp Street, Karori.

Start time is 19:30.

Club Meeting – 2 July 2008

It’s our turn to host the annual competition with our friends from the Hutt Club. The battle will be on July 16. As you can see from the following list, each club has to supply 20 prints and 20 digital images, a formidable task for our small club, so we hope YOU can participate. As for this meeting, the selection process is in some ways more interesting than the actual battle, because club members get to make the decisions and to agonise over what image best fits the topic.

Prints: open subject (10 images from each club)
Prints: set subject: portraits (10 images from each club)

Digital: open subject (10 images from each club)
Digital: set subject: weather (10 images from each club)

If you’re a new member, don’t be put off by the thought of having to cut a matte and frame your print – more experienced club members will be happy to help (and that also applies to the KACC exhibition and the regional battle below).

Club Meeting – 21 May 2008

Make sure you come to our meeting this Wednesday night – Kent Blechnynden from the DominionPost will be there to entertain us with some of his great photography – we hope!

I say “we hope” because we had him lined up for a meeting last year but that morning he was told to go to Napier to do some photos in the late afternoon and there was no flight back after that.

Our back-up plan if he gets called away again is to go out and pretend to be news/documentary photographers ourselves. I’ll let you know on the day if this does happen.

See you at the Karori Arts & Crafts Centre this Wednesday 21 May, 7.30pm.

Could everyone please bring something to share for supper. We hope to have some Hutt Camera Club members there too.

Club Meeting – 7 May 2008

Portrait Workshop

“Portrait” is one of the subjects for the Hutt battle, but possibly
one of the most difficult photo subjects to master. That is perhaps
because we immediately have a mental vision of sophisticated lighting
systems, and studio backgrounds. However, Stella is going to lead this
session, focussing on how to see the light (so to speak), and showing
how easy it is without specialised equipment. The lighting demonstration
would also apply to shooting in daylight.
