Hope you haven’t been too blown away by all the wind over the weekend!   Our next meeting is on Wednesday and this time we’re getting together to review the printed images that “made the cut” after our first rounds. Of course, if any of our recently returned travellers have a selection of their finest travel photos they wish to share, then who are we to refuse…..

Club meeting – 13 July 2016

Meeting this Week

When
Wednesday 13th July 2016, 7:30pm
Where
Karori Arts and Crafts Centre (The Newman Centre), 7 Beauchamp St, Karori
Our next meeting is on Wednesday and this time we’re covering the last two topics of the Interclub – Landing and the triptych based on the Haiku – Winter leaves, buds tightly rolled, silence. Again, it doesn’t matter if they’re not in their “final” format yet – we can discuss, critique and toss around ideas and see if we can come up with some more winning images!

I’ve come to realise that my technical ability with Photoshop is woefully lacking (“inept” might be a better word) so I’ve been looking to the web for inspiration and tutorials. There is so much good stuff out there – now all I have to do is practice and practice and practice. Current fave of mine among the photographic fraternity is Joel Grimes (http://www.joelgrimes.com/GalleryMain.asp?GalleryID=24128&AKey=P7FJP8B4). But just when I thought that Joel had a good handle on composite images, I came across Jim Kazanjian (http://www.kazanjian.net/) – now that’s one composite-mad guy… and I just love it!!! Anyone got any more photoshop whizzes worth checking out???

Club meeting – 22 June 2016

Meeting this Week

When
Wednesday 22nd June 2016, 7:30pm
Where
Karori Arts and Crafts Centre (The Newman Centre), 7 Beauchamp St, Karori

I hope you all managed to get on down to the NZIPP conference over the weekend and see their competition images.  Some of them (okay… MOST of them) were stunningly beautiful.  I caught 4 workshops and came away loaded with knowledge, a Canon swag bag, and a yearning to get another camera… more lenses… take a photo holiday… aaah… the stuff dreams are made of!!!  Hopefully you could also get on down to the NZ Academy of Fine Arts on Queens Wharf and enjoy the fine photographic images displayed (and for sale) there.  Check them out and you may notice several from Mary Livingston as well as from other past members of the club!  Very talented people!!!

Our next meeting is on Wednesday and this time we’re covering IMPRESSIONS and BLUE for the next two of our themes for the Wellington Interclub competition. Again, it doesn’t matter if they’re not in their “final” format yet – we can discuss, critique and toss around ideas and see if we can come up with some more winning images!

For those of us who have been travelling around the world, if you’re back by Wednesday then feel free to bring along a selection of images to make us wish we were there too.  And for those who are already overseas (I’m looking at you, Mr Girdwood) or those about to go overseas (Mr Berger?) then we look forward to seeing what amazing images you can bring back.  🙂

Well, if nothing else, the official start of Winter has given me every inspiration to stay snug and warm inside and learn Photoshop.  I’ll admit it – I’m happy to leave the Winter Landscape photos to hardier souls than me!  J

At the last meeting we were a bit light on photos of happiness, however our NZ Landscape section was overflowing with simply stunning images of Godzone.  At our next meeting we’ll be covering New Zealand Wildlife and Macro for the next two of our themes for the Wellington Interclub competition.  It doesn’t matter if they’re not in their “final” format yet – we can discuss, critique and toss around ideas and see if we can come up with some more winning images!
