Club Meeting – 25 February 2015

Last meeting we had a good turnout to Makara Beach. The weather was
absolutely stunning and we managed to stay until well past sunset. It is
a trip that we must do again.

Meeting this Week

When
Wednesday 25th February, 19:00
Where
Karori Arts and Crafts Centre, 7 Beauchamp St, Karori

This week we are going to take a look at the images that people took
from this outing.

Now for others who weren’t at Makara, if you would like to show some
recent images, feel free to bring these along as well.

It is quite interesting to see what diverse photos a group of people at
the same event can produce. So I suggest that we show the photos from the
Makara outing first. Once that is done, we can take at look at the other
images.

So to the specifics.

  • Bring along up to a dozen photos separated into two groups. One group
from the Makara outing, the other for recent work that you want to
show. Suggest that total number be kept to a dozen, split how you
    want between the two groups.
  • Can people please size images to 1280px on the longest side?
  • Can people please name images as follows? This will help Heuchan with organising images.

    • For makara photos: makara_firstname_lastname_some_title.jpg
    • For other photos: other_firstname_lastname_some_title.jpg

Administrivia

The start of a New Year means that it is time to renew membership.

To recap, we need to subscribe to the Karori Arts and Crafts Centre. That
is $30. There was a form and instructions in the January Newsletter that
Margaret sent out.

And then we have a $5 fee to cover the sundry items such as gifts to
speakers. This is paid to Heuchan. If you can bring this to the meeting
that would be good.

And thanks to those who responded to the email confirming inclusion
on the list.

Lastly

Here is a project that has gained a fair bit of attention, Humans of New York

Thanks to Bill for reminding me about this. While listening to the On Taking Pictures podcast,

I had heard about ‘Humans of New York’ in connection with this project Let’s Send Kids to Harvard

Questions that come to mind are

  • Is this what photography is all about?
  • Are these ‘good’ photographs?
  • Is this is an example of a body of work where the body as a whole is lot stronger than the individual images?
