To night we have two things to do

  • Mary Livingston presenting
  • Initial selection for Welligton Interclub

Mary Livingston Presents

To Facebook or not to Facebook… isn’t really the question at all!

As an ‘excited novice’ Mary began her digital camera journey about a
year and a half ago.

And 54,000 images later, a course at Photospace under her belt,
a 100 day Challenge, many experiments, and various attempts at entries
and displays via the KCC, Mary has learnt heaps and is very much
an ‘aware’ photographer (ed. Mary prefers aware beginner).

Part of her journey has involved Facebook. Used wisely it has been a
great way of sharing her journey with friends, for making new
acquaintances with other enthusiasts and getting the occasional bit of
advice from some great photographers.

Mary has been ‘volunteered’ to talk about her photo journey so far and
the rewards/pitfalls experienced through reaching out.

And of course we are going to see some of her favourinte images. Having
finally learnt that less is more, Mary assures me that we won’t see all
54,000!

Initial Selection for Wellington Interclub

The Wellington Interclub is being held on Tuesday 8th September. We have
to end up with 10 printed images, 1 per topic, to represent the club.

As a reminder, the categories are below and full details can be seen at
wic.org.nz

We first view images for each topic using projector/laptop screen and
select up to three images that are to be printed for final selection.

Final selection is done from printed images. The prints should be at
presentation size, but don’t have to be matted. Presentation size should
fit in a matte of 20″ x 16″ (50 cm x 40cm).

There are three scheduled meetings before the the interclub. Here is a
proposed agenda for the three meetings

22nd July Presentataion – Mary Livingston
projector/laptop selection
12th August projector/laptop selection
26th August print selection

For the 22nd July the topics are

  • Backlit
  • Architecture
  • Stormy Weather
  • Inspiring Views
  • Intimate Moments

And for 12th August we look at whatever we didn’t finish at the previous
meeting and the following:

  • Glassware
  • Industrial Disease
  • Window Lit Portraits
  • Let’s Make Music
  • 10 square yards

So for this meeting, can people please bring up to 3 images max for
each of the following categories. At this stage digital is preferred,
but if you have prints we will also look at those.

  • Backlit
  • Architecture
  • Stormy Weather
  • Inspiring Views
  • Intimate Moments

If people can resize images so that they are 1620px on the longest side
that would be good.

And can we please name images as follows?

  • category_firstname_lastname_anything.jpg e.g.
  • backlit_mark_berger_anything.jpg

Lastly

Whew, after that next time 🙂

Club Meeting – 8 July 2015

Meeting this Week

Karori Arts and Crafts Center Exhibition – 11th to 18th July

A reminder that the 7th July 18:00 is the last time for
drop off of work at the centre.

The opening is on Friday evening. I am not sure of the
exact time. Last year it was 18:30. If this is different
this year, I will send out an update.

When
Friday 10 July 2014
Where
Karori Arts and Crafts Centre, 7 Beauchamp St, Karori

A few of the club members have entered photos. And with the photographic
judge this year being Cliff Threadgold, feedback will be enlightening and
informative.

There is always art work on display that is worth seeing. And it is also
good to meet other people that use the Centre.

Hope to see you there.

50 Greatest Photographs of National Geographic

If you haven’t been to see the National Exhibition Exhibiton at
Expressions in Upper Hutt, do make time to go and see it. Suggest that
you go during the week if you can as it is very busy at weekends. It is
on until the 26th July when it then shifts to Palmerston North.

50 Greatest Photographs of National Geographic

Lastly

Olaf Willoughby writing at Luminous Landscape talks about The Art of
Noticing and a way we can improve it by Collaborating using Visual
Rhymes.
Looking but not Seeing

Perhaps this is something we can explore at a meeting or outing.
