Meeting this week

When
Wednesday 14th December 2016, 7:30pm
Where
Karori Arts and Crafts Centre (The Newman Centre), 7 Beauchamp St, Karori
Let’s eat, drink and be merry… and have one last blast of amaaaazing imagery! What to bring:
  • A plate
  • A refreshing beverage of your choice
  • A few (say, between 5 and 10) of your favourite images of the year – ones you’ve taken or ones which you love or have inspired you.
And while we’re all in the mood, there are a few housekeeping things we can also cover off on the night:
  1. Topics for Wellington Interclub (refer to Bill’s list which has been emailed out to members)
  2. Date for Wellington Interclub
  3. Venue for Wellington Interclub
  4. Ideas to do next year
  5. Any Summer outings you’d like to do
  6. Thoughts about what worked well this year and what we could do differently

Thank you for a wonderful year of photography and friendship.  :-)

Club meeting – 23 November 2016

Meeting this week

When
Wednesday 23rd November 2016, 7:30pm
Where
Karori Arts and Crafts Centre (The Newman Centre), 7 Beauchamp St, Karori
This is our second-to-last meeting of the year (unless we manage to squeeze in an outing somewhere!).
Looking for some inspiration and direction for what to do over the Summer break?  Have you thought about doing your PSNZ Licentiateship Honours (L)?  The criteria are here and some examples are here.
If anyone in the club has already done their L it would be great to see your set and maybe for you to talk us through why you chose those images and what it took to meet the standard.
Wow – what amazing images!  A BIG thanks to Justin Blaikie and Hugh Davies for bringing along their L series and talking us through them.  If we’re not inspired to do our L’s then at least we were inspired to take better photos ourselves.
A reminder for those that are considering the L’s – the guidelines are here and it’s important to note:
The annual opening date for portfolios to be submitted to the Secretary of the Honours Board, with the appropriate Application forms is 16th January. The closing date is 28 February. Any submissions after this date will be returned.

This was the Hutt’s year to win the Wellington Interclub, but here’s to repeating our 2015 win in the Hutt Battle.* On the evening itself, the hosting club provides a light supper, so we’re looking for people to bring a plate. I’ll provide a cheese board (I think I might bring along a bottle of wine to go with it too!).* We’ll need some volunteers to help out with setting up the room from 7pm.Well, as it turns out, this WAS the Hutt’s year!  The beat us fair and square with some great images (though ours were pretty good too!).  Here’s what was on offer…B&W Portrait 20 B&W Portrait 19 B&W Portrait 18 B&W Portrait 09 B&W Portrait 10 B&W Portrait 11 B&W Portrait 12 B&W Portrait 13 B&W Portrait 14 B&W Portrait 15 B&W Portrait 16 B&W Portrait 17 B&W Portrait 08 B&W Portrait 07 B&W Portrait 06 B&W Portrait 05 B&W Portrait 04 B&W Portrait 03 B&W Portrait 02 B&W Portrait 01

Club meeting – 26 October 2016

Meeting this Week

When
Wednesday 26th October 2016, 7:30pm
Where
Karori Arts and Crafts Centre (The Newman Centre), 7 Beauchamp St, Karori
The Hutt Battle:

  • Food
  • Minimalist
  • B&W Portrait
  • Special Effects

We had some fantastic images last meeting, but it’s not too late to consider new images so… bring your images along on a USB drive on Wednesday and we’ll run through them all and select our final 10 per category.  Mark it down in your calendar - the date of the Hutt Battle (that were hosting this year) is Wed 9th November.

The close-off for us having our 4 sets of 10 images for the Hutt Battle is this Friday (28th October).  This is to give us time to anonymise the images and to give the judge time to review and score them.  And the person who will be doing the judging is…. still a secret!

And just as one competition is about to start, we’re already looking to the next one – Karori Camera Club is the host of next year’s Wellington Interclub so it’s not too soon to start thinking of what topics you’d like for the competition (10 topics).

Club meeting – 28 September 2016

Meeting this Week

When
Wednesday 28th September 2016, 7:30pm
Where
Karori Arts and Crafts Centre (The Newman Centre), 7 Beauchamp St, Karori
In tonight’s meeting, Hugh and Brian will give us their experiences with making books. We’ll also start thinking about/discussing our images for the Hutt Battle (42 days to go!).  And if anyone’s got some good images from their recent travels then bring them along.

Club meeting – 14 September 2016

Meeting this Week

When
Wednesday 14th September 2016, 7:30pm
Where
Karori Arts and Crafts Centre (The Newman Centre), 7 Beauchamp St, Karori
It seems like it’s been ages since our last meeting, but with the month starting on a Thursday, I guess it has been a long time!

And speaking of time, there are just 57 days until the Hutt Battle – the topics we chose are:

  • Food
  • Minimalist
  • B&W Portrait
  • Special Effects

There are no particular plans for this meeting so if you have any photos you’ve taken that you want to show or discuss, bring them along.  Got any ideas for a shoot?  Found any “interesting” places? Got any views on the 5Dmk4? Ordered one yet???

Club meeting – 24 August 2016

Meeting this Week

When
Wednesday 24th August 2016, 7:30pm
Where
Karori Arts and Crafts Centre (The Newman Centre), 7 Beauchamp St, Karori
Well, what an exciting time it was at the Wellington Interclub competition last week.  Karori Camera Club was a very strong contender with Mary’s Impressions image winning that category and Eva’s Macro Impressionistic photo winning both her category and the separate prize for best Impressionist image.  A fantastic result for both of you and well-deserved recognition.

However…. drum roll please….. when the points were added up it was the Hutt Camera Club which won (and finally get to put their name on the trophy)!  A great result for them.

Below are some of the photos I snapped on my phone during that evening (glad I’m not being judged on the quality of my images) of the judging and of the category winners.

Tonight is our usual club night.  Brian Barrett will be showing a selection of the amazing images from his recent trip to Europe (can I still call Britain part of Europe???).  Hope to see you there.

Club meeting – 10 August 2016

Meeting this Week

When
Wednesday 10th August 2016, 7:30pm
Where
Karori Arts and Crafts Centre (The Newman Centre), 7 Beauchamp St, Karori
First things first – we still haven’t got a strong image for Happiness. Now is the time for you to take advantage of all those keywords you entered against every image you imported into Lightroom and search for happiness!  If you have one (or more) could you please print them and bring them along.  We have to make our Happiness selection tomorrow.

The aim of the game is to have all images printed and matted and gathered together by the end of tomorrow evening so that we steer clear of any last minute hiccups.

If you’re already matted your image(s) then please bring them along.  If you haven’t already matted your image then tomorrow night is our matting session.  Bring along your image (Printed! And sized correctly!).  Could those of you who have matting equipment/machinery/experience please bring them along to assist those of us who have none of the above!

And as a special treat tomorrow night, if we finish our matting in a reasonable time, maybe Brian can show us a few images from his recent travels?!!

Mark this in your calendar for next week:

Last year we were soooo close… maybe this is Karori’s year… it’s time for The Wellington Interclub Competition.  Even if you don’t have an image entered, it’s the place to be…

The date – Wednesday 17th August

The time – 7.30pm

The place - Khandallah Town Hall, 11 Ganges Road, Khandallah

What to bring – a small plate of food to share at the supper break

What not to bring – your printed and matted photo – I will bring those along.
