Well the first meeting is on us. As has been the norm for the past few
years, the first meeting is an outing.
This year we are going to do the top end of Cuba St and its environs. So the
plan is to meet as follows and take it from there.
Where: The Thistle Hall Community Centre, 293 Cuba Street
When: Wed 8th February, 19:00 (note the slightly earlier time)
We will shoot for an hour and a half or so and then convene back at the Hall.
From there we will find somewhere to go for a catchup.
As always, if you need to contact one of us, numbers are
Mark Berger 021-535-835
Heuchan Hobbs 027-327-5453
P.S If the weather turns to custard, then we have a Plan B, which is at the
Railway Station.
This is the final meeting of the year. A rather social meeting where we
reflect on the past year and where we plan for the next.
I suggest that we have a nibble or two. I will bring along cheese and
biccies. Maybe someone else can bring along a bottle of wine or a
plate/packet of something. I don't think we need a lot.
We will be working on the calendar for next year. So bring along ideas
for challenges, outings and speakers.
There will be a selection of magazines/books to peruse.
Hope to see you all there.
It is the final challenge of the year - Construct a Composite image.
The idea here is based on the talk that Margaret Hobbs gave in June.
Create a new image using a number of images. This requires visualisation
of the final image and then finding images that can be used in the
construction.
This is slightly different to the regular challenges. Here each member
provides a single constructed image. Then a short discussion should
ensue about the whys and the hows.. It would be handy to see each of the
images that make up the construction.
I am not too sure how many are going to rise to this challenge. So if
you have images for any of the other challenges during the year, but
didn't present them on the night of the challenge, you can bring them
along for consideration.
For this Can people please size images to 1024px on the longest side?
Can people please name images as follows?

Finally, if you have some images from last week's outing to the top
of Wright's Hill, can you please self select 5 and bring those along.
Well, seeing that the Hutt Battle was last week, we in fact have a
spare Wednesday up our sleeve.
So we thought that we would make it an outing. The venue is the top
of Wright's Hill. There are good views all around and we should be able
to catch the sunset.
And then afterwards, if anyone is keen, we can migrate
to the Quiet Lady.
So without further ado, here are the details.
When: Wed 16 November, 19:00.
Where: Meet at the top car park of Wright's Hill.
Notes.
1. 19:00 is the start - that is to maximise light.
2. You can get to Wright's Hill by going up Campbell St, turning right
into Wright's Hill road and follow the road until you can't go any
further.
3. If it's raining, let's meet at the club rooms and we will activate
Plan B.

Hutt-Karori Battle is to be held on 8 November at the Hutt Valley
Tramping Club Rooms, 15 Birch Street, Waterloo, Lower Hutt (map
attached).
This year's topics are listed below along with details of how this event
is to be judged.
Topics:
1. Open - Colour
2. Open - Monochrome
3. Shoot from your boots
4. Including clouds
Details:
Each club submits 10 images in each of the four topic categories above.
All images will be digitally projected and should be jpg format not
exceeding 1024 pixels horizontally or 768 pixels vertically. A list of
random (numerical) filenames that have been allocated to Karori is
attached. Please do not use any other filenames as our numbers slot into
the gaps.
Judging:
On the evening the Judge will award each image a score out of 10. Since
the filenames have been allocated in random order the judge will have no
knowledge from which club each image has come. The club with the most
points at the end of the evening wins. A neutral judge, Tim Wild NZIPP,
http://www.wildphotography.co.nz, has agreed to judge the competition.
Well this week is all about choosing images for the Hutt Battle, which
is on Tuesday 8th November.
A reminder on how the battle works. Each club submits 10 images in each
of the four topic categories below. All images will be digitally
projected and should be jpg format not exceeding 1024 pixels
horizontally or 768 pixels vertically.
Topics:
1. Open - Colour
2. Open - Monochrome
3. Shoot from your boots
4. Including clouds
Can you please bring along images that fit the four categories. They
don't have to be taken this year and they don't have to be digital. If
a print image is selected, I will organise for it to be scanned.
If digital, a couple of requests:
* Can people please size images to 1024px on the longest side?
* Can people please name images as follows?
* category_firstname_lastname_anything.jpg e.g.
* weathered_mark_berger_old_thing.jpg
If we try and timebox each category to half an hour, we should be able
finish within a couple of hours. Yes, I can just see the Tui image :-)
It is the sixth challenge of the year - Weathered. And we need to start
thinking about the Hutt Battle
Each member provides six images. The rest of the group choose the best
three, which are then used for the end of year presentation.
A couple of requests.

If you can please bring along any images that you think might qualify,
we will collect them. We are going to use the meeting on 2nd November
to do the final selections. However, if we can get the images before
hand, we can work out where we need to do some more work.
A reminder about the meeting this week.
It is titled "The Four Travellers". We are looking forward to
presentations from the four who have travelled this year i.e. Brian
Barrett, Hugh Davies, Heuchan Hobbs, Bruce Poole.
We look forward to seeing interesting images and partaking in some
stimulating discussions.
A latish reminder about the meeting this Wednesday.
It is the fifth challenge of the year - Reflect

First meeting for the last third of the year. Given that we have been
busy for the last few meetings choosing entries for the Wellington
Interclub, I thought we would try something a litte different this time.
It is going to be a hands on meeting, the focus being "Seeing the Light".
So for this meeting, can you all please bring along your
cameras along.
We will take a look at some of the characteristics of light, how it
affects the images you make and how use your camera to create different
effects.
Hopefully when you leave the meeting, your curiosity will be further
piqued and you will be looking for and seeing light in a different way.
